The calendar flips over to June this weekend – and I think it’s time to catch some nice rays and enjoy some classic summer songs. It’s been a long, dreary, cool and wet winter/spring season. I’ve done a summer songs special every year around this time – I always look forward to hearing these special songs, and sharing them with you. This year, I’ve pulled together the best line-up of songs ever – because our recently-launched ‘Fabulous Fifties – and Beyond‘ gives me the opportunity to showcase so many summer songs that came out of that era.  We’ll hear Nat King Cole and The Jamies (remember them?), Cliff Richard and Beach Boys, and some one-hit wonders with songs that’ll bring back happy memories of summers past.
During a later summer – ‘the summer of love‘ – many of us recall dreams of hitch-hiking out west, to San Francisco (with flowers in our hair, maybe?).  A San Francisco band first called Jefferson Airplane (later renamed as Jefferson Starship, and eventually just Starship) debuted with one of the hot songs of summer ’67 – ‘Somebody to Love‘.  Jefferson Airplane is the next band in our year-long spotlight on ‘the greatest groups of our time – in alphabetical order‘.  I’ll wrap up the show with a birthday salute to a good pal of the station – Dan Hill.
So put on that sunscreen (we can only hope, for a sunny weekend, eh?) … and take Zoomer Radio with you to the beach/cottage/park/outing and ‘Vintage Favourites‘ will be your perfect soundtrack to summer – with yours truly – this Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:30. Cheers.
