PAUL SIMON at 80

One of my favourite singer songwriters is Paul Simon – I’ve loved his work from ‘The Sound of Silence‘ through ‘Graceland‘, and up to his recent duet with Dion singing ‘New York is My Home‘.  Paul is about to turn 80, and I’ll salute him with an hour of his best songs, going back to that late 50s rarity – ‘Hey Schoolgirl’ with Art Garfunkel, as ‘Tom & Jerry’.

I’m also going to feature The Four Lads, on the anniversary of Frank Busseri’s birth October 10th (1932).  The Four Lads were Canada’s first internationally successful vocal group in the 1950s, and in the early years of this radio station, we’d often present the still-touring crooning veterans in concerts. Frank was their baritone singer, founding member and group manager – he passed away in 2019.

And in our first-hour feature – ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ – remembering Gene Vincent and John Denver, saluting Daryl Hall and The Moody Blues’ Justin Hayward on their birthdays, and diving into the ‘Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Sugar Sugar‘ by the cartoon group The Archies.  How did that song, co-written by Andy Kim – become one of the top hits of the 1960s ?

I hope you’ll join me for a Thanksgiving Sunday afternoon of ‘Vintage Favourites’ – this Sunday (Oct.10) between 2:00 and 4:30.  Cheers.
