HALLOWE’EN SPOOKTACULAR

BOO!  It’s Hallowe’en this Sunday and, although my own kids are all grown up, I still have fond memories of old traditions, pumpkin carving, dressing up and going ‘trick or treating’.  One of the things we really enjoyed was putting together a cassette-tape of scary songs and spooky sound-effects which we’d play from our front porch. All these years later – the kids are grown and gone, along with the old costumes and props – but the ‘spirit’ lingers. Right ?

So I’ll once again go deep into the music vaults, wipe away the cobwebs, open that creaky old door, and dig into that long-abandoned stack of records. Oh, look at this: ‘Dinner with Drac‘ by John Zacherle … that’ll be fun. Songs of werewolves baying at the moon and monsters doing ‘the mash’ … and a couple of rarities by Spike Jones, and … well, you get the idea.  I’ll have ten wonderfully weird, ghoulish golden oldies.

There’s more of course: our first hour look back at ‘This Week in Zoomer Music‘ recalls the first major African-American hosted TV show of the 1950s, The Beatles’ historic ‘Royal Command Performance’ in 1963, when John Lennon famously suggested the rich simply ‘rattle your jewellery’, and ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ – ‘Thriller’. Michael Jackson’s masterpiece is perfect for this Hallowe’en Sunday.  And I’ll wrap it all up with a big birthday spotlight on k.d. lang – about to turn 60.

Join me – please – I’m falling apart !  (Nah – just a Hallowe’en trick – or treat.)
