It’s been long-considered the Beatles’ masterpiece, the apex of Sixties rock, and stood for decades as the critics’ choice for ‘greatest album of all time’. ‘Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was released 55 years ago next week, in the UK – May 26th, 1967. I’ll take us through every song on the legendary album, as well as tell you ‘The Story Behind the Songs‘ ‘Penny Lane’ and ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ – the two tracks originally intended for ‘Sgt. Pepper’, but instead, released as a double-sided hit single. Some say it’s the greatest single record ever!
I’ll also have a birthday spotlight on Bruce Cockburn after 4 o’clock and, during the show’s first hour – ‘This Week in Music History’ – I’ll salute Bob Dylan and John Fogerty, both also enjoying upcoming birthdays. Great listening for a Sunday afternoon in May – I hope you’ll tune in at 2pm. this Sunday, May 22nd.
