FAMILY SONGS FOR FAMILY DAY

This long holiday weekend for Family Day offers us a chance to spend time together, cherish those special moments – and people – in our family. It also inspired me to gather some wonderful songs – many of which we just don’t hear anymore. ‘Family songs for Family Day’. And I found those songs in various genres from pop and rock to country and soul – because ‘family’ touches us all.

I’m also looking forward to the first hour of the show – ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ – where we enjoy eight songs that were each #1 this week day in years past. You’ll hear the original hit version of ‘Smoke Gets in Your Eyes’ from the 1930s. You’ll hear the early 50s singer some musicologists call ‘the missing link’ between the old crooner era and the new rock’n’roll age – it’s the guy who bridged the gap between Sinatra and Elvis. And you’ll hear the first big hit by The Spice Girls – that helped usher in the new millennium of teen-pop.  Plus ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Blinded by the Light’. It was the first major hit written by Bruce Springsteen to go to #1 – but it wasn’t the Boss’ version.   I hope you’ll tune in this Sunday (Feb.19) from 2:00 to 4:30pm.
