HAPPY BIRTHDAY TORONTO & INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Despite all the challenges our city faces – as others do as well – our Toronto is still a wonderful place, worth celebrating as we approach the 189th anniversary of this city’s establishment on March 6th 1834.  The coming week also marks International Women’s Day, celebrated by the United Nations every March 8th since 1975.  What to do – but celebrate both dates – with some wonderful songs from across several music genres.

Among the many featured songs are Kiefer Sutherland’s ‘Bloor Street’, Matt Dusk’s ‘Kicks in the 6ix’ and of course our Toronto ‘anthem’ ‘People City’ by Tommy Ambrose.  Plus: familiar feminist anthems, and a song we’ve never played by Toronto’s Amy Sky, putting Maya Angelou’s words to music in ‘Phenomenal Woman’.   And there’s more.

Our first hour feature: ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits’ will spotlight chart-topping songs from the Roaring Twenties to doo-wop in the 50s, Andy Gibb in the 70s, George Michael in the 80s and ‘The Story Behind the Song’ from ‘Titanic’ – now marking its 25th anniversary.  Please tune in – Sunday from 2:00 to 4:30pm.
