Former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy says he hopes becoming a member of the Order of Canada can serve as a beacon to lead other children out of the darkness of abuse.

Kennedy is among 95 new admissions and promotions to the Order of Canada.

He was sexually abused by his coach Graham James when he played junior hockey, and has become one of Canada’s most vocal advocates for victims of child abuse.
