A pair of Zoomers landed safely off the coast of Mexico today after flying their helium-filled balloon almost 7-thousand miles across the Pacific Ocean.

50 year-old Troy Bradley of Albuquerque, New Mexico and 58 year-old Leonid Tiukhtyaev of Russia set two ballooning records on their journey as well.  They surpassed the 137-hour duration record that was set by the first balloon to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, and they exceeded the distance record of 5,209 miles.  It was set in the first trans-pacific flight back in 1981. 

In order to land their “Two Eagles” balloon today off Baja California, Bradley and Tiukhtyaev dropped down low over the ocean and slowed the craft by trailing thick ropes into the water.  They then made a controlled splash landing.
