Thailand’s 62-year-old Crown Prince led thousands of cyclists through the streets of Bangkok today in a tribute to his mother Queen Sirikit, who just turned 83.

The Queen and her husband, 87-year-old King Bhumibol are both said to be in declining health.

It’s believed the 43km bike ride is the first event ever to be publicly led by Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Other well-know public figures took part in the event, including Prime Minister PrayuthChan-ocha, who said he hoped that it would help to unite the country which is still divided over a military coup that took place last year.

Over 300-thousand people registered to join the ride. The monarchy is revered in Thailand.
