The Ontario government and the Ontario Medical Association have reached a tentative agreement. An arbitrator has awarded doctors a four-year contract giving them a raise of one percent over the four years in a ruling that puts no hard cap on the physician services budget. The O-M-A and government have been in conflict been in conflict with the government for several years, and voted down a 2016 proposal that would have increased the $12-billion physician services budget by more than $1 billion but also included $200 million in fee cuts. The arbitrator says a working group will be set up to look into restricting overused doctor services. The ruling rejects a government request for fee reductions for ophthalmology and cardiology.
