Zoomers of a certain age grew up with colouring books, matchbox cars and other toys. These items and more are included on a list of finalists for this year’s induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame. At the top of that list? The smartphone.
Other finalists include The Care Bears, Jenga, Risk and Nerf Blaster. Hall of Fame officials say the smartphone earned a place among the twelve finalists because of its impact on countless mobile games. To make it into the hall, toys have to be innovative, widely recognized and be more than a fad. Other criteria calls for the toys to foster learning and creativity through play. Last year’s winners were the Magic 8 Ball, pinball and Uno. This year’s winners will be inducted November 7th.
