Prince Andrew has announced plans to step back from public duties, with the Queen’s permission. His recent T-V in Britain has been called a public relations nightmare. He’s facing heavy criticism for comments he made in which he seemed to show no remorse for his friendship and close association with convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein. In the BBC interview, he also denied allegations that he had sex with an underaged woman who said she had been trafficked by Epstein.
In a statement, the Duke of York said he “unequivocally” regretted his relationship with the disgraced financier. The decision of a senior royal to step away from his duties is extremely unusual and reflects the degree to which charities and educational institutions had been questioning their associations with him in recent days.
