Looks more and more like some high school students in Ontario will get a second day off school in as many weeks. The head of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation is accusing the Education Minister of ratcheting up rhetoric around the tense talks instead of engaging in constructive bargaining. Harvey Bischof says the government is creating confusion by claiming that the federation’s latest offer would cost $7-billion over three years. Minister Stephen Lecce continues urging the union to call off Wednesday’s one-day strike and sit down with a mediator to reach a deal. The one-day strike will close schools across nine school boards including the Toronto District School Board, the largest in the province.
Meanwhile, the province has reached a tentative agreement with the Educational Workers Alliance that represents about 6-thousand assistant and support workers in Halton, Dufferin-Peel and in the French system.
