It’s been delayed for weeks, but the federal government says a COVID-19 tracing app for smartphones is now in the testing phase.
It was supposed to be tried in Ontario earlier this month but the trial to look for bugs and other problems was delayed. The COVID Alert app, voluntary to use, is supposed to track phones’ locations without collecting personal data anywhere centrally.
You’re asked to give it a test drive. The Canadian Digital Service is asking people to sign up and try the app out.
Meantime, while there’s been a drop in new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario to 103, there’s been a big jump in people hospitalized with the virus. The Ministry of Health reports it’s up to 154 Thursday, up from 128 on Wednesday.
