If there’s a second wave of COVID-19, Premier Doug Ford says he won’t hesitate to close schools, adding that health comes first.
The Premier is again defending his government’s back-to-school plan which doesn’t call for a lower class size of 15 in elementary schools like it does in high schools.
“If it was up to all of us, we’d have five kids in the class but in saying that, we have the lowest amount of kids in junior kindergarten in the country, and we have the lowest number of kids from grades one to three in the country,” says Ford who faced several education-related questions during his daily pandemic briefing.
The Ford government was advised by experts at SickKids who stressed that smaller classes should be a priority. The Premier says he’s ultimately responsible but is confident that Ontario has the best plan in the country and reminds parents they can choose to send their kids to school or keep them home for online learning.
