The Ford government spending on the pandemic is now up to $13.3-billion.
That’s $2.6-billion more than the contingency fund than the province projected in its budget last November.
In releasing the province’s third-quarter finances, Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy shot back at repeated opposition accusations that the government’s sitting on money.
”The report shows that the government has flowed all of the time-limited and extraordinary contingencies, we had allocated for this fiscal year, so that we could remain responsive as the pandemic continued to unfold,” Bethlenfalvy explained.
”Now some have criticized our plan. They’ve claimed that we haven’t spent the money. These claims are simply incorrect.”
The government’s expected to deliver the 2021-22 budget by the end of March.
