Ontario will have 34 different vaccine delivery plans as local public health units will create strategy for how people will be inoculated.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says these plans have been submitted to the provincial government for approval.

“The 34 public health units that operate across Ontario are not new organizations, they have historic data on their community, on the individuals and neighbourhoods within those public health units that are more at risk so we’re capitalizing on that historic data and empowering professionals to make decisions based on priority guidelines,” said Jones.

While the health units must vaccinate priority populations first according to provincial plans, Jones say they can also determine the best way to serve the needs of their communities. This could mean mass vaccination clinics, while others do active outreach to vulnerable seniors to arrange the shots.

Opposition leader Andrea Horwath says the province needs to take a more active approach to the local rollouts and ensure all health units have the necessary resources.
