She was considered a woman of wonder by her family and not just because she was the first woman hired to write “Wonder Woman” comics.”
Joye Hummel was offered the job in New York when she was 19. She said she was was astonished and delighted by the offer and and said yes.
She wrote “Wonder Woman” story lines from 1944 to 1947 and in 2014 donated her archives to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
Joye Hummel died this week at her home in Winter Haven, Florida just a day after turning 97.
No cause was announced.
