The group representing doctors across Canada is calling for ”extraordinary” measures in the fight against an explosion in infections in several provinces including Ontario.
The Canadian Medical Association wants Ottawa to consider changing its vaccine distribution strategy to instead focus on urgent areas rather than shipping doses to provinces on a per-capita basis.
CMA President Dr. Ann Collins says the country’s at a ”critical juncture” of the pandemic, adding a ”truly national approach” is needed.
The doctors’ group also says further restrictions ”must also be considered” in provinces experiencing soaring cases of infections.
The CMA feels provinces should be sharing healthcare resources with hard hit regions like Ontario and Quebec.
In fact, the Ford government’s sent letters to the other provinces and territories pleading for assistance.
The deputy health minister estimates Ontario will be short 4,145 nurses in hospitals alone over the next four months.
