Ontario’s premier is said to be isolating in Toronto, presumably at home, after learning a staff member who came in close contact with him on Monday has tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement from Doug Ford’s office also says the premier has tested negative for COVID-19 himself but will follow all public health advice for close contacts of positive cases, including isolating.

Members of Ford’s office staff who were also in close contact with the infected individual will also isolate.

The premier has come under intense criticism for failing to make a public appearance since last Friday when he announced new COVID related restrictions including on many outdoor activities along with additional police powers, some of which were walked back the next day.

The premier received a first shot of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine on April 9th.

In fact, 25-percent of all Canadians have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The milestone comes as the governments of Quebec and Saskatchewan joined Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia in lowering the age requirement for the Oxford AstraZeneca shot.

Residents of Ontario who are 40 and over became eligible Tuesday to receive the AZ shot in pharmacies and doctors offices.

In addition, as of Wednesday April 21st, there are 20 Shoppers’ locations in hot spot communities in Toronto, Peel and York, which are offering the COVID vaccine around the clock.
