Toronto has publicly named the 11 businesses affected by Section 22 closures. They include a car dealership, a fast food restaurant, and a makeup manufacturer. Complete list below.
They’re among the first Toronto workplaces ordered to close or partially shut down due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
Mayor John Tory says the diverse types of workplaces experiencing outbreaks show that it’s difficult to legislate what is considered an essential business.
“It is sometimes more complicated than just to name an industry or a given function at a plant in a given place in the city that may have had a problem and say it’s essential or non essential, I think you have to look at it, in context.”
Since Friday, the regions have moved to temporarily close 13 businesses under a Section 22 order that gives Toronto and Peel Region the authority to close any workplace that reports five or more cases over a two-week period.
