The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is now recommending the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for Canadians 30 and older.
But NACI says to weigh the risk of rare but potentially serious blood clots from the vaccine or wait for another shot.
The guidance is identical to the one issued for the AstraZeneca product last month, and comes as both are suspected of causing a new, rare blood clot.
There are seven known cases in Canada; one of them fatal.
Over 1.7-million have received at least one shot of AstraZeneca.
There are 17 reported cases of the blood clotting disordered in approximately 8-million Americans who got the J & J vaccine.
Canada’s first 300,000 doses of J & J remain at a Toronto-area warehouse pending investigation to ensure they’re safe after discovering they were partly made at a U.S. facility cited for quality-control violations.
