Ontario’s Opposition Leader has written the OPP commissioner asking provincial police to determine if a criminal investigation is warranted into reports of senior deaths due to dehydration and neglect in long-term care.
Andrea Horwath’s request follows last year’s report from the Armed Forces and more recently, the reports from the Auditor General and Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission.

”The commission report that was released last Friday was horrific in its detailing of the situation in long-term care – neglect, dehydration, COVID-19 running rampant,” the NDP leader told the legislature during Question Period.
”Yesterday (Wednesday) the premier said, and I quote ‘the buck stops with me’. But it looks like the only thing this premier is taking responsibility for is passing that buck. In fact, back in April of last year, he said pretty much the same thing.”
In her letter, Horwath asks OPP Commissioner Tom Carrique to lay charges ”where necessary.”
