A federal grand jury has indicted the four former Minneapolis police officers involved in last year’s arrest and death of George Floyd.

The indictment accuses Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Kueng of violating Floyd’s constitutional rights as he was restrained face-down on the ground and gasping for air.

Chauvin, Thao and Kueng are charged with violating Floyd’s right to be free from unreasonable seizure and excessive force.

All four are charged for failing to provide Floyd with medical care.

Chauvin was also charged in a second indictment, stemming for the arrest and neck restraint of a 14-year-old boy in 2017.

Chauvin was convicted last month on state charges of murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death and is in prison awaiting sentencing.

The other three face a state trial in August.

The U.S. Justice Department last month announced it was opening a sweeping investigation into policing practices in Minneapolis.
