As eligibility widens in Ontario today to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, the general confidence in COVID shots appears to be holding firm in Canada.

A new Leger online poll conducted over the weekend found more than 8 in 10 respondents have either received a vaccine already or plan to get inoculated when it’s their turn.

But while over 80 per cent say they have trust in the vaccines from both Pfizer and Moderna, fewer than 50 percent say they feel that way about the AstraZeneca or Johnson and Johnson vaccines, both of which have been linked to extremely rare cases of blood clotting.

Meantime, we’re learning Ontario residents who got a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will likely receive a different vaccine for their second shot.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says the province will likely mix and match in light of uncertain future supply of all vaccines.

The provincial PCs are waiting for the results from a British study on mixing different vaccines along with advice from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization.

It’s unclear when more AstraZeneca shots will arrive, but Ontario is expecting millions of Pfizer shots in the coming weeks.
