As of tomorrow, Canadians will no longer be able to leave the driving to Greyhound.
The bus company is permanently cancelling all its remaining routes in Ontario and Quebec, ending nearly a century of service.
Greyhound Canada made the announcement a year after temporarily suspending service when passenger traffic dropped 95% due to COVID-19.
”It’s been a lifeline for many Canadians, whether it be for school, employment or leisure,” says Greyhound Canada senior vice-president Stuart Kendrick, who adds it a ”sad” and ”tough” decision made with ”a heavy heart.”
Greyhound laid off 260 employees when it suspended all operations in Western Canada in 2018, and says another 45 will lose their jobs as a result of today’s announcement.
American affiliate, Greyhound Lines, will continue to operate cross-border routes to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver once the border re-opens.
