COVID-19 vaccine eligibility is set to be expanded across Ontario to people as young as 18 beginning tomorrow.

A statement from the Ministry of Health says with 2.2 million doses of vaccine arriving in Ontario this week, there is an opportunity to offer vaccines to all adults 18-plus in all public health clinics a week ahead of schedule.

The eligibility age change from 40 to 18 takes effect Tuesday at 8am at ontario.ca/book vaccine, or by calling the hotline at 1-888-999-6488.

Before Tuesday’s change, residents 18-plus are only able to book their vaccine if they live in one of the province’s designated 114 hot spot communities.

According to the provincial government, more than 7-million doses have been administered to date with a goal of reaching 8-million by the end of May, which would represent 65 percent of Ontario adults.

About 429,000 people have received two doses and are considered by the Ministry of Health to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
