Ontario’s Science Advisory Table experts are meeting this afternoon to consider shortening the vaccine interval for AstraZeneca from 12-to-8 weeks as other provinces have done.

That hint from Dr. Peter Jüni, the advisory group’s scientific director.

“The eight weeks are really within reach so I asked the table to have a discussion Friday with Dr. Dirk Huyer and other colleagues and we’ll talk about that part.”

There are growing calls from both leading health experts and municipal leaders to shorten the interval, including the Mayors of both Brampton and Mississauga.

When asked about the possibility yesterday, Health Minister Christine Elliott said the government would stick with the 12-week period while at the same time announcing a shorter interval for those in Delta hotspots who received an mRNA vaccine as a first dose.
