Merrilee Fullerton is out and Rod Phillips returns to the Ford cabinet to replace her in the pandemic hot seat.
Phillips was forced to resign as finance minister last December following his trip to St. Barts.
Fullerton is now Minister of Children, Community and Social Services.
She had struggled to explain the problems in long-term care, which led to the deaths of nearly 4,000 residents.
For months opposition politicians and others have been calling for Fullerton’s removal as minister … including the Zoomers’ advocacy group CARP.
”This vindicates our campaign.  We organized, as you know, a petition asking the premier to replace the minister,” said ZoomerMedia vice-president and CARP’s chief membership officer David Cravit.
”We are pleased that this is a win for our position, and that the premier has reacted accordingly and put someone in we hope will be able to do a better job of making the necessary moves that we’ve been calling for for a long time.”
The shuffle sees five ministers dumped, and seven new faces, including Kinga Surma who’s now the Infrastructure Minister.
Gone are Jeff Yurek, John Yakabuski, Ernie Hardeman, Laurie Scott and Bill Walker.
Staying are Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott, Finance Minister Peter Bethlanfalvy, Education Minister Stephen Lecce, Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney and Labour Minister Monte McNaughton.
The shuffle comes nearly two years after the last one and less than one year away from the next election.
