For the third day in a row, little Lytton B-C has set the record for the highest temperature ever recorded in Canada.

Lytton hit 49.5 Celsius yesterday after setting records of 47.5 and 46.6 the previous two days.

Environment Canada says over a hundred heat records have shattered in B.C., Alberta, Yukon and the Northwest Territories in a heat event they’ve dubbed “historic.”

Dozens of deaths have also been blamed on the heat wave.

In Vancouver, the local police says the police have responded to more than 65 sudden deaths since the heat wave began on Friday.

Most of those who died are seniors.

Air conditioner units aren’t ubiquitous in homes and apartments on the lower mainland as temperatures rarely come close to the highs experienced the last few days.

B.C. is expected to get a slight reprieve from the heat Wednesday but the scorching weather will continue in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
