For the first time the prime minister is openly supporting any form of mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.
Justin Trudeau says he’s asked the clerk of the Privy Council to look into making vaccinations compulsory for some federally regulated workplaces such as the airline, railway and banking industries.
Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the discussions are mainly among deputy ministers and treasury board officials about who various employees interact with, and what the level of risk is to them and those around them.
The prime minister also says he fully supports U.S. President Joe Biden’s recently announced plan requiring federal employees and contractors to demonstrate proof of vaccination, or be subjected to new rules, including mandatory masking and weekly testing for COVID.
