The late Canadian author W.P. Kinsella was honoured last night at a baseball field in Iowa that one of his books helped inspire.

In 1989, Kevin Costner starred in the movie “Field of Dreams.” based on Kinsella’s “Shoeless Joe,” which was written in 1982.

The scene last night was Dyersville, Iowa as Major League Baseball recognized Kinsella’s influence on a major piece of Americana on film.

It was all part of a special night where the Chicago White Sox walked off the New York Yankees 9-8 at a field built not far from the actual diamond used in the film.

Kinsella was born in Edmonton in 1935. He died in Hope, B.C in 2016 at the age of 81.
