Toronto’s mayor is adding his name to a growing list of individuals and organizations calling for a province-wide proof of vaccination system.

John Tory argues “it is the best thing we can do right now to ensure businesses remain open during the fourth wave of COVID-19.”

At the same time, a statement from Mayor Tory says they are currently in the midst of finalizing plans for city workers when it comes to COVID vaccination.

City of Toronto spokesperson Brad Ross says, “it’s a complex issue and one we need to work with others on, not just in a vacuum. There are labour laws and other things that public health issues provincially that city people will need to consult on and follow.”

So far, most workplaces have not mandated COVID vaccination for employees, but some like the University Health Network, have put policies in place that require workers to regularly test negative for COVID-19 if they are not vaccinated.

Mayor Tory says he will have more to say on the topic next week.
