She was immortalized when she broke the colour barrier by performing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1939.

Now comes word that a new 15 CD collection of Marian Anderson’s performances from 1924 to 1966 is to be released August 27th.

The collection not only includes Anderson singing opera, but religious music and Christmas carols as well.

The Daughters of the American Revolution had barred Anderson from singing at Washington’s Constitution Hall. She was also banned from performing in the auditorium of a white public high school.

The First lady at the time, Eleanor Roosevelt, stepped in and arranged the concert at the Lincoln Memorial which was on U.S. federal property.

Marion Anderson died in 1993 at the age of 96.
