Hundreds of emergency room doctors have signed an open letter to Doug Ford demanding the province increase pay for critical-care nurses and repeal Bill 124.
The letter claims emergency departments across the province are in crisis and that it’s not due to lack of beds or ventilators but because acute care nurses are leaving in droves.
The letter says hundreds of nurses have become sick with COVID-19 others are quitting due to burn out, PTSD and what the physicians describe as “utter disrespect” from the Ontario government.
Bill 124, introduced by the Ford Government in 2019, limits salary increases for nurses to one per cent annually and nurses they it’s preventing them from pay increases they feel they deserve.
The letter claims that nurses have not receive a pay increase on par with inflation in over a decade.
