Two First Nations leaders from Manitoba endorsed a Liberal candidate while standing next to NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh at a campaign event.

The two regional chiefs; the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Arlen Dumas and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Grand Chief Garrison Settee, made it clear that their loyalties lie elsewhere.

“Our executive has recognized the candidate that is running in the riding and she’s Indigenous and we want Indigenous people to get involved in this process.”

They pair say they’ll support Shirley Robinson over NDP incumbent Niki Ashton in the Churchill–Keewatinook Aski riding.

The Chiefs thanked Singh’s team for organizing a recent event where he spoke with Indigenous Chiefs about issues.

Singh is promising to renew Canada’s relationship following the discovery on unmarked graves at residential schools.
