We Canadians will find out more at 11am Wednesday about the Trudeau Liberals’ plan to make it mandatory for federal employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
It was a promise the prime minister made just ahead of the federal election call and then throughout his campaign.
Justin Trudeau also promised that his government would also make COVID vaccinations mandatory in federally regulated workplaces, including for anyone boarding a train or a plane.
A published report this morning says unless federal employees have a medical exemption, they will be forced to take unpaid leave if not fully vaccinated. This mandate along with the one for travellers is expected to come into effect soon.
Stephane Aubry is vice-president of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, and says if the government’s draft mandatory-vaccine policy stands, it would mean even federal staffers who work from home or outside of the country will have to be vaccinated to keep their jobs.
