She was a star on Broadway who is most widely known for playing the mother of star Paul Reiser’s character on the sitcom “Mad About You.”

Cynthia Harris has died in New York.

Among many other activies, she co-founded Off Broadway’s The Actors Company Theatre in 1993 serving both as co-artistic director and a cast member.

Harris also starred in the 1979 TV miniseries “Edward & Mrs. Simpson,” playing Wallis Simpson and winning a BAFTA nomination for her performance.

Cynthia Harris was 87.
