While there’s been much focus on COVID-19 vaccines,  the province is kicking off one of its biggest seasonal flu immunization campaigns.
Health Minister Christine Elliott’s announced that the government is spending over $89-million this year to buy more than 7.6-million doses which is 1.4-millin more than last year.
This includes 1.8-milion doses specifically for seniors.
Initial doses were given to nursing home residents and hospital patients last month, and they’re now available for seniors and others most at risk for complications from the flu.
That includes seniors, children older than six-months and younger than five-years, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma.
Starting in November, all Ontarians can get a shot through doctor and nurse practitioner offices, pharmacies and health units.
Flu vaccine uptake last year was close to 40%, and in previous seasons it’s been closer to 30%.
