It is good news for Canadians excited to get back to international travel.

A blanket advisory against all non-essential travel outside Canada has quietly been lifted.

The ban had been in place since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in March of 2020.

A statement from the Public Health Agency of Canada says Canadians should be fully vaccinated before they travel and urges travellers to follow public health measures at their destination.

Canadians are also encouraged to take personal protective measures when abroad, such as mask wearing and physical distancing, along with frequent hand washing.

The news comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau yesterday announced agreements have been reached with all provinces and territories on a vaccine passport for international travel.

Fully vaccinated Ontario residents have been able to download the enhanced vaccine certificate with a QR code since last weekend at covid19.ontariohealth.ca.
