Environmental advocates and scientists are saying the clock is very much ticking as world leaders arrive for the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
About 120 world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, are in Glasgow.
Environmentalists say the world’s nations are not even close to being on target to limit warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. Keeping warming under that threshold would prevent the worst effects of the changing climate.
Leaders are being warned that this conference is possibly the last chance to develop a road map with immediate steps to reducing emissions.
With record levels of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere, some of the global warming effects are already baked in and the race is very much on to prevent the climate crisis from turning into a catastrophe.
