More than 100 countries have announced a commitment to ending and reversing deforestation by 2030.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson touted the announcement as the first major breakthrough of the COP 26 climate conference being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Brazil, which is seeing the Amazon rainforest, a crucial climate sink, has signed onto the pledge.
There is some skepticism about the announcement. A similar pledge was made by fewer countries back in 2014 that failed to halt the practice.
Also at the conference on day two, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a discussion on the importance of carbon pricing.
Trudeau touted Canada’s plan. He says currently 20% of the world’s pollution emitted is priced. By 2030, he wants that number to be 60%.
