This year’s Booker Prize for Fiction has gone to South African writer Damon Galgut for his story of racism and reckoning, “The Promise.”
Galgut had been shortlisted twice before.
The 57-year old’s novel follows a white South African family in the years before and after the end of apartheid.
The award comes with a $69,000 US prize.
Previous winners include Canada’s Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatji and Yann Martel.
