It’s only fitting that Margaret Atwood’s latest honour would be a stamp to go on a letter or something else Canadians put in the mail.
With more than 50 works to her credit – including novels, short fiction, poetry, children’s stories – a Canada Post stamp, celebrating her contributions, was unveiled at the Toronto Reference Library.
It features a close-up of the ”the Queen of Can Lit” resting her hand on her face with her famous line ”a word after a word after a word is power” repeated in the background.
”It’s a picture of me thinking (Atwood laughing) … the rest of the time I’m not,” said the 82-year-old Atwood.
Despite being a winner of the Booker Prize (twice), the Giller Prize, co-founder of the Writers’ Trust and the Griffin Poetry Prize, as well as being named a companion to the Order of Canada, she’s probably best known for her dystopian depictions of societies, such as in 1985’s ”The Handmaid’s Tale.”
