Ontario’s rise in COVID-19 cases is not a 5th wave according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore.

“We never declared the fourth wave over this is simply a continuance and sadly all modelling would predict this would slowly, steadily rise and increase over the coming months including January and February so all of us in Ontario, Canada and northern hemispheres have to remain vigilant.”

Dr. Moore says if you travel over the holidays and return even with mild symptoms, get tested and stay home and he’s recommending travel only for those fully vaccinated.

Meantime, case counts and hospitalizations in the 5-11 age group have been increasing and Dr. Moore says the best way to reduce those numbers is through immunization.

He’s encouraging parents with questions about the vaccine to call the provincial hotline 1-833-943-3900 or book a consult with SickKids hospital.

And Ontario’s top doctor says expect news soon expanded eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots.
