Ontario’s chief medical officer is hinting more people could soon be eligible for 3rd shot boosters of COVID-19 vaccine.

“And you’ll be hearing news soon I think on an expanded eligibility for third doses that will follow the science,” revealed Dr. Kieran Moore on Thursday.

Dr. Moore says the focus right now is multi-pronged, including getting 3rd shots into all of those currently eligible, “then the 5 to 11 year olds get their first and then second doses, and in between, when we see capacity improved, I do believe the government will make declarations on expanding below the 70 age group very rapidly based on evidence,”

Currently in Ontario, only a few groups qualify for a third booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine, including healthcare workers, individuals 70 and over, people who got two doses of AstraZeneca or one dose of Johnson and Johnson and Indigenous, Inuit and Metis adults. You need to be 168 days past your second dose to get a third one. The link to register is here.
