Speaking from the scene of the attack on the U.S. Capitol exactly one year ago, President Joe Biden called it an ”attack” on democracy by a mob of Donald Trump supporters trying to ”subvert the Constitution,” who wanted to overturn the 2020 election results.
Biden warned that his predecessor’s false claims that the election was rigged could unravel the rule of law and undermine future elections.
”We must be absolutely clear about what is true and what is a lie. Here is the truth: A former president has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election,” stated Biden.
”He’s done so because he values power over principle.”
Meanwhile Trump is accusing his successor of trying to ”further divide America.”
In written statements, the former president says it’s all political theatre, a distraction, that everything Biden touches turns to failure, adding ”that’s what you get when you have a rigged election.”
