Felix Auger-Aliassime recorded a four set victory over Marin Cilic in the fourth round to join Denis Shapovalov in the quarterfinals.

Auger-Aliassime overcame a quick start by the 2018 finalist and held on tight until he could turn things around, in a 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory on a hot and humid day in Melbourne.

After the match, the 21 year old from Montreal said it’s special to record his first win over Marin Cilic.

“Like I told him at the end of the match, he’s a champion, the way he handles himself, the way he plays,” Auger-Aliassime recounted, “So you know he’s going to come out with his best level and test me and make me earn this win, so you know I’m really relieved and happy to get through, especially the way I did.”

Auger-Aliassime takes on the No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev in the quartefinals.

22 year old Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill faces 20-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal late tonight (Tuesday in Australia).

Fellow Canadian Milos Raonic has reached the quarter-finals or better at the Australian Open five times.

This is the first time two Canadians have reached the quarters in the same year.
