Some health services and surgeries that were paused can resume on Monday across the province in stages. These include cancer screening, pediatrics, ambulatory clinics, diagnostic services and more.

“This does not mean all hospitals will immediately resume the surgical and procedural activities permitted and we are working with Ontario Health and the sector on this first step,” said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Keiran Moore.

The province has also announced most businesses that are set to reopen next week, no longer need to collect information for contact tracing but proof of vaccination remains in place. Dr. Moore says the province is not currently considering changing the passport to include third doses.

And the Ministry of Long-Term Care is extending the deadline to March 14 for staff to get their third COVID shot.

It says as of January 23rd, 77 % of eligible staff had three doses.

Dr. Moore also says the Covid-fighting pill Paxlovid will be prioritized for older unvaccinated adults and the immune compromised over 18 regardless of their vaccination status.

Don’t expect more lockdowns in Ontario based on words from the provinces top doctor Thursday at his weekly COVID briefing.

“Sometimes were were too cautious, it’ll never be exactly right for everybody and it’s healthy to have debate but we do have to have a balanced response to this virus and learn to live with it.”
