He played drums with Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Howlin’ Wolf  and more.

Blues drummer and singer Sam Lay has died of natural causes in Chicago at the age of 86. He was known for his trademark double-shuffle drumming, based on double-time hand-clapping from his childhood church.

Lay — who wore a cape and carried a walking stick — was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 as part of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
